GENERAL HOSPITAL STAR AND BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL EMMY WINNER IAN BUCHANAN: IN HIS OWN WORDS
A television icon, Ian Buchanan has talent and charm, and a worldly intelligence. It has brought him success in both the drama of soap operas and Twin Peaks, and the humor of It’s Garry Shandling’s Show. Besides his legendary role as Duke Lavery on General Hospital, and his Daytime Emmy Award- winning turn as James Warwick on The Bold and the Beautiful, Ian has racked up dozens of other television, film, and theatre credits, as well as stints on two other soap operas, All My Children and Days of Our Lives. But, it’s his international modeling success that took him around the world, and that love of travel has been with him ever since. Exclusive to HollywoodHI, here’s Ian Buchanan in his own words.
I have made the best of my quarantine. Although my memories and imagination hardly replace a month in the cities of Europe that I love, I have mastered the art of dressing from the waist up for Zoom and House Party, a talent I must remember to correct when it is once again time to step out. “Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and take yourself out” has always been my motto. When there’s nowhere to go, what to do? My criteria these days is matching the t-shirt to the face-mask and strolling with all the panache I can muster. Where would I rather be?Having a lazy lunch in Paris would be nice. A leisurely boat ride with a chilled white wine in Amsterdam. A long walk in any of London’s glorious parks with a break or two for a cold beer outside a flower- bedecked pub. And I’d photograph the park and the flowers. Sitting in a circle, laughing with my family in the Scottish countryside with the sun still bright late into the night. Striking out after tapas and taking an hour or two to find a gem of a restaurant in Madrid. Hopping on a trolly car in Lisbon for the steep climb to the castle and anticipating the spectacular view from the top. What all these adventures have in common is a good pair of walking shoes and shorts with pockets and boundless enthusiasm. I have those here. Picking myself up, dusting myself off and taking myself out! It’s really all the same.
