James Patrick Stewart and Wally Kurth were nominated for Daytime Emmy awards earlier this year, for their portrayals of Valentin Cassadine and Ned Quartermaine on General Hospital. Both of the actors have singing backgrounds, and have even recorded CD’s of their music. And their characters have sung at Port Charles events, as well.
Fans of James know that he is the proud son of one half of the 60’s singing sensation Chad and Jeremy. Chad Stewart has passed down his beautiful voice to his son James, who last year released the CD The Apple Tree – now available on Amazon.
Earlier this year, James and Wally got together on a nice spring day and “we were doing a photo shoot ,” says Wally. Since the two actor/singers had their first personal appearance together coming up “we needed to practice for an audience”. So the two talented guys put on an impromptu mini concert (ok, one song). While the photographer quickly started recording, negotiating with the sun for the best angle and light, Wally and James sang flawlessly.
“I’ve always liked two part harmony,” says Wally. Once part of a touring and recording partnership, it was easy for Wally to slip right back into the groove. “Kurth and Taylor started as a acoustic duo,” he reflects. “I loved Simon and Garfunkel growing up. I listened to Bridge over troubled water album over and over.,” Wally remembers.
“I wasn’t familiar with A Summer Song until James played it for me,” says Wally, . He was quick to appreciate the top ten hit song, released in 1964. “And I loved it. It is so cool James’ dad wrote it for his duo.”
So, sit back, and enjoy Wally and James, and the easy, breezy A Summer Song.
